Makeup Geek Duo Chrome Pigments (Swatches & Review)

Today I'm sharing with you some photos of the new Makeup Geek Duo Chrome Pigments. I'm also including a quick review since I'm posting an in depth video here on my channel tomorrow morning.

Makeup Geek launched 8 new duo chrome pigments and 12 duo chrome eyeshadows last month. I was able to snag the pigment bundle set before it sold out. It will be in stock sometime in the near future. For more information regarding that, tune into the Makeup Geek Cosmetics Instagram page.

These new pigments have jars that are clear with a metallic gray embossed cap. The overall look is very sleek and pretty. However, the quality of material that went into making these jars, is very poor. With each pigment retailing $12 individually, which honestly is pretty steep for the Makeup Geek brand; you should receive better quality for that price point. Many of us have experienced cracked jar that were either shipped with cracks or have gotten cracks from repeated use.

::Pigment Descriptions::

Wildfire: dark pink base with gold duo chrome 

Hologram: orange base with greenish gold duo chrome

Kaleidoscope: blue-ish gray base with pink, teal and purple duo chrome

Mood Ring: gray base with purple duo chrome

Sugar Rush: white base with blue, purple and pink duo chrome

Chameleon: deep teal green with gold duo chrome

Prism: white base with golden orange duo chrome

Insomnia: reddish brown base with green duo chrome 

Apart from the obvious cracking issues, these pigments are beautiful. They are very unique and I don't have anything like this in my makeup collection. If you are looking to purchase a few and need recommendations, here are my picks: Kaleidoscope, Sugar Rush, Wildfire and Chameleon.

Makeup Geek Foiled Eyeshadows (Review & Swatches)

Today I'm sharing my thoughts on some very exciting eyeshadows that are totally great.  I've seen a few videos on youtube raving about them but when I swatched them myself, I was blown away. They look so good in videos and photos but in person, they're much more intense.

The ten new foiled eyeshadows are available individually for $9.99 (in pan form) or as a bundle set of all ten for $89. You save a little bit of money by buying the bundle set instead of getting each individually. Either way you choose to go, you won't be disappointed. The price point is a bit higher than the traditional Makeup Geek eyeshadows but the formula is completely different which is why there's a higher price.

Mesmerized~ a gorgeous taupe with a slight purple undertone. This one would be a perfect everyday color.

Caitlin Rose~ an iridescent purple. This shade is special because the proceeds of this eyeshadow goes to Batten Disease. If you want to know more about this generosity then head on over to the Makeup Geek youtube channel or website.

Jester~ a spring green shade that would be perfect as a pop of color to many looks.

Houdini~ a deep emerald green color. This would make for a gorgeous smokey eye or even as eyeliner.

Flame Thrower~ a stunning bold copper. I love this one so much because it intensifies my brown eyes. This color is super gorgeous smudged in the lower lash line!

Center Stage~ a deep blue with a slight purple tone. It's so beautiful but it's also not as super metallic  as the others. 

Showtime

Showtime~ a burgundy with a touch of copper. It's a great color for smokey eyes and so perfect for the fall/winter season.

Grandstand~ a taupe-y rose gold. It looks more orange in the pan photograph but in person it looks like the swatch. 

Magic Act

Magic Act~ an intense champagne gold. I've worn this softly as a brow/inner corner highlight and on the center of the lid with darker colors.

In the Spotlight~ a metallic golden pinky peach. This color is gorgeous all over the lid with soft neutrals in the crease. 

As you can see, these eyeshadows are incredible. Makeup Geek did a great job formulating them and I certainly hope more colors are released soon. The claims for these is that you don't need a primer to prevent creasing nor do you need a mixing medium to intensify "foil" the finishes. All the work has been done for you! I have oily lids and wore a few of the lighter colors without primer (which I never go without) for about 3 hours and noticed creasing. I always get creasing when I don't use a primer because of my oily lids, so I wasn't surprised when these creased. If you have oily lids, I recommend using a primer to keep them looking just as intense all day long. 

Other than that, I totally love them and will continue using them day to day and in tutorials. I would definitely recommend all of them to those who love intense metallic finishes.

Makeup Geek Vegas Lights Collection

Today I'm excited as usual to share with you my thoughts, photos and swatches of the ever so popular Makeup Geek Vegas Lights Collection. This collection recently launched and contains 5 pigments and a 6 eyeshadow palette. The pigment bundle has 5 full sized pigments and retails for $33.99 on the Makeup Geek website. If you were to order individual pigments from Makeup Geek, you'd spend $6.99 on each one. I ordered these individually (before collection was available to the general public) instead of choosing the pigment bundle and I only saved a dollar versus going with the bundle package.

In this post I'm talking about the pigments I ordered from the Vegas Lights collection. In case you're wondering, I didn't order the palette because I wasn't thrilled with the color selection. The palette is very warm in tone and I would have preferred a different variety of colors. I also feel the price of the palette ($37.99) is somewhat steep for what it is....just my opinion. Below are photos and a quick review of the Vegas Lights pigments and an extra pigment I ordered that's not part of the collection.


First up is packaging....the boxes are super cute. The actual pigment jars are 1.4g each which is a great amount of product. One thing I don't like is the mess these pigments make. There aren't any sifters (sold separately) to prevent the over flow of pigment product onto the table/makeup desk.

 Swatches....... :) I'm loving the creaminess of these pigments! The color payoff is awesome except for Jackpot which is the soft yellow gold. I find this color isn't too pigmented when used dry but the color is pretty. These swatches are dry without primer so you can see how crazy good these are.

This last pigment was one that I've been wanting to try for a while so I figured I'd just add it to my order. Sweet Dreams is a beautiful soft creamy beige with a peachy tone and a gold shimmer. This color is perfect for every day because it's not too metallic looking and the shimmer is very subtle. I've worn this one several times all over the lid with some black liquid liner and it's slowing becoming a go-to look for me. I'm in love with this one!!

I hope the photos, swatches and my thoughts were helpful if you are interested in this collection. I do find that the pigments are very pigmented, creamy, and opaque even when used dry and also have a high end feel to them. I would recommend that you try these or any of the other pigment colors offered by Makeup Geek.

My only gripe is that the price is somewhat steep for what you are getting. This Makeup Geek's first collection/palette launch and I would have liked a more discounted price. Each eyeshadow in this new palette are the same size as her regular eyeshadows which cost $5.99 for each pan. So if you were to order 6 eyeshadows individually, you'd pay $35.94 not including shipping and the new palette is $37.99 so you're actually paying more for having them place into a palette. In my mind, when you buy a palette from a company it comes out cheaper per each eyeshadow inside the palette versus ordering individual eyeshadows.

Another noteworthy mention about pricing, the pigment bundle is $33.99 for 5 pigments but if you were to choose 5 colors (not bundled together) you'd spend $34.95 which is only a $0.96 difference for going the bundled route. Again, I believe bundles/palettes should provide customers more savings. *these are my opinions and if I'm being honest..I must mention this.

I have been a huge Makeup Geek fan for many years and I'm loving her makeup products. I'm not knocking the products nor the brand in this review. I'm disclosing all information that I believe is necessary to share. New Makeup Geek Eyeshadows + Z Palette Organization

I'm excited to share with you some new Makeup Geek eyeshadows that I purchased last week. I know in my last haul video I mentioned being on a strict "no buy" for awhile but I couldn't help myself. As you probably already know, I am a huge fan of Makeup Geek eyeshadows. So of course, when the website shows 5 brand new colors that recently launch for May...I had to jump on it :)

So today I'm posting swatches, photos and my thoughts on the 5 brand new shades along with a couple other eyeshadows that have been out of stock for a while. So glad I got my hands on these babies. I also got a few other things from the Makeup Geek that I'll share very soon.


5 Brand New Eyeshadows::

Rockstar: silver with purple iridescent shimmer
Pop culture: shimmery lilac
Shark bait: matte deep teal
Glass slipper: shimmery aqua
Barcelona beach: matte medium tan brown

I am very happy with the pigmentation and color payoff of these new colors. As you can tell, they are very summery shades but honestly these can be worn throughout the year in many different wearable ways. 

Razzleberry: pinky red with gold glitter
Chickadee: matte orange
Dirty martini: matte dirty olive
Goddess: metallic coppery bronze

Again, pigmentation and quality is just amazing for the price. Each eyeshadow pan is $5.99 or if you prefer eyeshadows with individual compacts then the cost would be $7.99 each. 

Below are pictures of my Z palettes that are holding all of my Makeup Geek eyeshadows. I'm in eyeshadow heaven! I've organized my palettes by color as you can see below. I started with light neutrals and then gradually went to tans and browns. For the blues, I started with the lightest aqua then gradually to deeper blues then into greens then a couple randoms then finally into grays and black. Then lastly, for the yellows, I started with the palest yellow gradually to golds and oranges then to soft pinks to deeper plums and purples. 

The great thing about Z palettes is that you can reorganize your colors whenever you want.
